Solutions for managing your contacts (2009)

One of the things that pushed me to make this site was that I spent a couple of months earlier this year looking for a simple solution for managing contacts, prioritizing projects, and helping me sort through my professional and personal digital life.

I wanted a solution that I could use at work, at home, and something that was web-based so could also use it while on the road and from any computer. I also wanted it to be mobile and user-friendly.

I was looking through various CRM solutions and came across different products like Salesforce, Highrise, and Marketcircle.

There were also social media assistant sites I found like Pitchengine that seemed like they had potential, but nothing that blew me away.

After researching the web for that one product that would make my professional and personal life perfect, I decided that it did not exist. The best I could do was to combine different services in order to customize what I required specifically for the way I want to work.

With that I discovered a new service, Buzzstream. I signed up for and received a beta invitation, and just recently found some new information on them via Shel Holtz’s blog: “Pricing for the finished product will range from free for individuals with 25 contacts to $249 per month for 20 users and 10,000 contacts.” He also has some brief comments about it on his blog here.

In contrast to Buzzstream, an office I worked for several years ago had a subscription to Vocus and they spent approximately $10-15K/year for a contact service that also included hundreds of thousands of media contacts.

I don’t think Buzzstream would be for me, and if I was working in an office that purchased it, it would probably be a waste of money. But if the right person sees this and would use it, it could be very helpful in streamlining their workflow.
